Expert Ear Care Services In Your Own Home

At On The Go Ear Care, we specialise in safe and effective ear wax removal using the current recognised techniques such as micro suction and water irrigation. You will be visited in your own home by a fully accredited professional, ensuring that every procedure is conducted with the utmost care and professionalism.
Before you are visited for your wax removal appointment, please follow these steps to ensure a smooth and effective procedure:
Use olive oil based ear drops for 3-5 days before your appointment to help soften the wax.
Apply 3-5 drops in the ear/ears at least 3 times a day. Allow the drops to soak in for a few minutes by tilting your head or lying down, before gently wiping away any excess oil from the outer ear.
Avoid inserting cotton buds or any other objects into your ears as this often leads to wax being pushed further into the ear canal, leading to blockages and irritation.
By following these simple steps it leads to the removal process being far more comfortable and more effective.
The nature and amount of earwax, along with your medical history, will determine the most appropriate removal method. The methods of removal are:
MICRO-SUCTION
A gentle suction device is used to precisely remove the earwax.
The method is quick and generally requires less aftercare.
IRRIGATION
A controlled stream of warm water is used to flush out earwax.
Suitable for soft or loose earwax but not recommended for those with ear infections, perforated eardrums or a history of ear problems.
This procedure is what used to be provided at your local NHS practice.
MANUAL REMOVAL
A small instrument, such as a curette or forceps may be used for dry or hardened wax or foreign objects at the entrance to ear canal.
After earwax removal your ears will be re-examined to ensure that all excessive wax has been removed.
The health of the ear canal/eardrum will be checked for any signs of irritation or infection.
Personalised recommendations for ongoing ear care or a medical referral will be given as necessary.
It is normal to experience temporary changes after the procedure, such as:
Clearer hearing- sounds may seem louder than usual.
Dizziness or imbalance- sudden changes can cause brief dizziness.
Mild sensitivity- your ears may feel slightly irritated, but this should settle quickly.
KEEP YOUR EARS DRY
Avoid swimming or getting water in your ears for 24-48 hours after micro-suction or up to 7 days after water irrigation.
Place cotton wool in your outer ear to prevent water entering the ear canal.
AVOID INSERTING OBJECTS IN YOUR EARS
Steer clear of using cotton buds, fingers or ear candles as they often lead to pushing wax further into the ear canal and causing irritation.
USE EAR DROPS(IF ADVISED)
If recommended apply olive oil or medicated ear drops occasionally to help keep wax soft and manageable.
If you are prone to wax build-up, consider regular ear health checks ever 10-12 months.
Contact your GP if you experience:
Ear discharge
Persistent ear pain lasting more than 7 days
Urgent care is required if you experience sudden hearing loss.
